Not a In January 2016 we received a phone call from the BBC asking if we would be interested in taking part in their programme DIY SOS.
If you are not familiar with the show, celebrity host Nick Knowles and his team issue a call to recruit local trades help transform the homes of families across Britain.
The programme had arranged to help a local family from Hopesay, Craven Arms. Mr Grafton and his 7 year old daughter were nominated to have their cottage transformed after the renovation project had to be put on hold last year, forcing them to live in a caravan through the winter months.
Mr Grafton had suffered a devastating loss in 2014 losing his wife, Lucy's mother to Leukaemia, just weeks after Mr Grafton had suffered an accident at work which put him out of action as a fire fighter.
Our company volunteered to carry out the re-roof works, and the materials were generously donated by Sharpe's Roofing Supplies.
The team came away from the project amazed by all that had given up their time and turned up to support this local family, and also with a sense of pride that they had been able to participate in giving something back to local community they live and work in.
Our Director went back to site a few days later to join in the unveiling and witness the sense of joy from Mr Grafton and his daughter. The programme was aired on TV in May 2016,
There are so many shows on TV which show the negative side of the building trade, but DIY SOS shows the positive side of the trade and the skills of the great tradesmen that gave their time and expertise to help this family. We were proud to take part.
